Hayley/Autism Speaks Wristbands
Hayley's family has designed some special wristbands to help spread the word about Hayley's inspiring story and to help spread Autism Awareness.
The wristbands are $5 each. This includes the price of shipping. Wristbands will be sent out via First Class mail to be sure they are received promptly. To pay for the wristband/s, you can Paypal $5 for each one you would like to: hayleynickki@yahoo.com or if you don't have Paypal, please send an e-mail to dawna_8_26@yahoo.com and an address will be given to you where you can send the payment to.
The bracelets are light pink and light blue swirled. Each bracelet has a unique swirled pattern. The font is Comic Sans. There is a heart, Hayley, heart on the front and the back has a puzzle piece, Autism Speaks, puzzle piece. The bracelets are interchangeable - the Autism Speaks side could be the front side and the Hayley side could be used as the back side. Below are some pictures of the bracelets.
Any/all proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will be put to good use and go directly to helping Hayley. Such as purchasing a pressure vest and/or weighted blanket. Hayley is always pulling heavy, unsafe things on top of herself. It makes her feel calm and safe. The vest and blanket would be a safe way to achieve this feeling for her. Also, there are special videos that have a great success rate that will help her speech, special toys, and books for autistic children or anything else that will help Hayley immensely.
Hayley's Story
Hayley Nichole was diagnosed with autism in January of 2007. She just recently celebrated her 4th birthday. Her family had been told there was a good chance that Hayley would never learn to walk or talk. She beat those odds. She can walk and is saying several small words now while trying to say more and working on her sign language. You can find more information about her in the links below.
A defined explantion of autism from AutismSpeaks.org - "Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime. Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe."
Early intervention is key! If it is caught early enough and the child undergoes extensive therapy, they have a chance to live as normal a life as possible. Hopefully, some day a prevention and a cure will be found.
